Got a new laptop bag today. The Commuter laptop bag from Timbuk2. I know I've only had the bag for a short time but so far I love it. My Incase Nylon Sling Pack that has served me well these couple of years. Since I recently purchased a 500 GB WD My Book Home that I keep a time machine partition on, so I like to have it with me. The Incase bag was and is a great case. However I found the storage capacity was a bit lacking once I got the hard drive.
Aaron from Digital Octane has the same Timbuk2 bag I was interested in and loves it. Gizmodo had a link to a sale REI was having on it so I decided now is a better time than any to upgrade. A $100 bag for $40, it's a no brainer really.
Back to the bag. I really like this thing. So many compartments, pockets, pouches. It's great. I am able to fit my HD, all my wires, cables, etc... The part of the bag that actually holds your laptop is very nice. A smooth corduroy material lines the inside and it is thoroughly padded which is vital to a bag like this. One of my favorite things about it, although I wouldn't call it a feature, is the way the bag sits upright when you put it down on the floor. Other satchel type bags will just tip over, but the bottom is reinforced in a way that allows it to stand up, I love that!
My one complaint is the shoulder strap. It's extremely easy to adjust which means a lot coming from someone who has a hard time with those straps you have to slide a certain way to adjust. The only thing is that the strap just plain sucks. It's only a minor annoyance. If I was doing a lot of walking, taking public transportation, or doing anything where I had to wear the bag on my shoulder for a while it can get uncomfortable really fast. It could have been easily remedied with a pad of some kind.
In conclusion I love the bag, it's everything I need, just wish it had a shoulder pad. Good thing I don't "commute" on the train anymore.

Grant Skinner is a BeastThis guy is so nasty at Flash and AS3. I came across these slides over at Lee Brimlow’s Blog. I didn’t even finish going through all 150 of them but there were plenty of best practices I came away with. I’ll finish the set tomorrow.
